  • The Castle of Bahla – a listed World Heritage Site, the defensive walls of the castle protected Bahla and its fortress.
  • Jabal Harim – the highest peak in Musandam, an easy ferry ride from Muscat. It is 2087m high.
  • Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque – a symbol of the faith of the Omani people, it contains an Islamic Studies Centre, a 3-storey library with thousands of books, a meeting hall, a conference hall and two prayer halls.

The Arabian Oryx

Habitat: Barren terrain, deserts and plains.
Diet: Herbivorous: grasses, herbs, roots, tubers. Can go for long periods without water.
Classification and relatives: The Arabian Oryx is an even-toed hoofed animal and, more specifically, a kind of antelope. The Arabian Oryx is related to the East African Oryx, the Scimitar Oryx, gazelles, wildebeest and, more distantly, to cattle, goats and sheep.
Endangered status: Endangered
Lifespan: 20 years
